Oops! It's not a ripoff.

Oops! It's not a ripoff. Tara Calishain of Research Buzz contacted me before posting her front end for Google Cooking and I gave my okay. In fact, it's also going to appear in her new book, Google Hacks, where the idea will be credited to me. Thanks to Meg though, for watching out for my claim to fame.

Walking by the elementary school

Walking by the elementary school on my way back from the gym this morning, I noticed a bunch of kids out on the pavement at the back entrance jumping rope. Or rather trying to jump rope. They all had bright white ropes, obviously brand new, and both boys and girls were having equal amounts of trouble actually twisting the ropes and jumping at the same time. What's happened to jumping rope anyway? It used to be that every girl could jump rope fast and long, with few misses, though the boys didn't usually participate. All across the playground you could hear the clicking sound as the rope hit the blacktop and the voices chanting 'All in together girls, never mind the weather girls', the words being the obvious reason I suppose for why the boys didn't participate. It was good to see the boys taking part today, but sad that it appeared to be a brand new skill for everyone. Kudos to the teacher who had them all out there trying it. I hope it's just that I haven't noticed and not that jumping rope has become a lost art around here.

With all the press recently

With all the press recently about obesity and its causes, I like this way of understanding reasonable portion sizes by 'seeing' the size they should be. But why didn't they show pictures? I started googling for photos myself but found that it had already been done. Here for some true portion size visualization, I present fat free photos as they call them at the Baylor College of Medicine.

March Madness has enticed us

March Madness has enticed us into lots of eating in front of the tv screen, watching the hopefuls against the powerhouses, always rooting for the underdogs to pull off yet another upset and stay alive in the tournament. It has infected us with hoop fever and borne the idea for a Starbuck's promotional opportunity which we freely offer. All that's required is a small March Madness sign and tiny hoop ringing the waste bin in the center of the table of coffee paraphernalia on the way out the door. Peter's performance has been exceptional while I unfortunately have not lived up to my Bouve past. Makes me wonder what's happened to our old nerf basketball hoop and the taped on the rug three-point line we left behind when we moved from Brookline. If only I could have kept practicing.
