My oh my, we had a wonderful time on our California trip, managing to do just about everything we'd planned and to see just about everyone we'd hoped to. But the highlight, of course, was Michael's graduation ceremony from Expressions, celebrating the completion of his program in Sound Arts. Pictures to follow soon.

They begin with a couple of graduation shots, move on to a day in Larkspur and a visit to the Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park and finish up passing time in the airport and on the plane coming back to Boston. One subject of conversation with relatives last weekend was the year 2002, the only palindrome year in the century. More on the phenomenon in a followup email from my brother-in-law.
As the clock ticks over from 8:01PM on Wednesday, February 20th, 2002,
time will (for sixty seconds only) read in perfect symmetry. To be more
precise: 20:02, 20/02, 2002. It is an event which has only happened once
before, and is something which will never be repeated. The last occasion
that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the
digital watch (or the 24-hour clock): 10:01AM, on January 10, 1001. And
because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never
happen again.
And this morning's coffee and conversation produced the following realization. There's a fine line between independence and stubborn determination. Discussion ranged on from that point.

I do so enjoy my sister and her pithy comments that get right to the heart of all sorts of things. For example, here's her comment on my posting yesterday. 'I can't wait for 20:02,20/02,2002. It will be an unrepeatable moment, but then isn't every moment unique?' Don't you wish she'd get back to writing on her own blog?
Today's the day though not yet the time. Per Jason though, it's not quite as rare as I originally thought.
